چکیده

Because of their large geographic coverage, inherent broadcast capabilities, and fast deployment features, network operators plan to use satellite-based networks to supplement existing wire-line and legacy networks to bring broadband and multimedia services to endusers. Satellites are multiple access systems with very limited transmission capacity compared to terrestrial network nodes. Therefore, end-to-end resource management for such systems is key to deliver acceptable Quality of Service (QoS) to services while providing adequate efficiency. We study in some details, using simulations, a method integrating Bandwidth on Demand with Call Admission Control in geostationary satellite networks with an on board switch. In particular, we describe a set of algorithms and study the impact of different types of bandwidth reservation on the QoS received by the connections and the network efficiency. Performance Study of End-to-end Resource Management in Atm Geostationary Satellite Networks

This paper deals with end-to-end resource management in geostationary (GEO) satellite networks. Bandwidth on Demand (BoD) is central to end-to-end resource management in these systems. In this paper, using simulation analysis, we study the impact of BoD reservation parameters on the Quality of Service (QoS) received by the connections, the resource utilization, and the Grade of Service (GoS) of...

Analysis and Simulation of Delay and Buffer Requirements of satellite-ATM Networks for TCP/IP Traffic

In this paper we present a model to study the end-to-end delay performance of a satellite-ATM network. We describe a satellite-ATM network architecture. The architecture presents a trade-off between the on-board switching/processing features and the complexity of the satellite communication systems. The end-to-end delay of a connection passing through a satellite constellation consists of the t...

VoIP PERFORMANCE IN NGEO SATELLITE IP NETWORKS WITH ON-BOARD PROCESSING CAPABILITY In this thesis study, an adaptive routing policy utilizing the real-time network information of a two-layered satellite network is introduced. In a satellite network, depending on the requirements and properties of services provided, various kinds of satellites from different orbits can be employed. Geostationary...

Multimedia Satellite Networks and TCP/IP Traffic Transport

To meet an increasing demand for multimedia services and electronic connectivity across the world, satellite networks will play an indispensable role in the deployment of global networks. A number of satellite communication systems have been proposed using geosynchronous (GEO) satellites, medium earth orbit (MEO) and low earth orbit (LEO) constellations operating in the Ka-band and above. At th...

Integration of ATM and Satellite Networks: Traffic Management Issues

The design of effective traffic and resource management policies is a key issue in the deployment of ATM-satellite systems. This paper proposes a technique of call admission control and dynamic resource management to support ATM traffic classes in satellite environments. The effectiveness of the strategy is assessed by referring to the EuroSkyWay multimedia satellite platform, based on Ka-band ...
